"If it was left up to the police, I'd be a lot richer and lounging at home right now, not nursing a headache in a hospital with armed guards and a lawyer." It was said so matter-of-factly. To his credit, whatever it counted, he didn't actually give away that this place had a vigilante.

Not innocent in the slightest, and he didn't pretend to be. He knew what he was and he didn't deny it. "I can talk about a lot of things. The weather, for instance. Or did you want me to get all weepy? Tell you I had a bad childhood and it turned me into what I am today?" Matt might notice that that supposed joke of a statement was actually true, even if he played it off as a farce. "Some people are just lost causes. I love what I do and I'm incredibly good at it. This incident not withstanding."

"What do you get out of it? A glimpse into the psyche of a robber and a killer? What makes you want to defend the scum of the Earth as a living, Mister Lawyer?" Because he didn't know Murdock was picky with his clients.
